U.S. Congresswoman Martha McSally emerged as the victor of Tuesday's Republican primary, winning a three-way primary contest and defeating former State Senator Kelli Ward and former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
McSally had been long seen as the establishment favorite to win the Republican nomination, and was ahead in most polling leading up to the primary.
McSally will face U.S. Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema in the general election, in what is expected to be a very close contest.
McSally thanked supporters at a campaign event held at Culinary Dropout, a trendy gastropub near the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe.
