Garry Kasparov, the world renowned chess champion, was the keynote speaker for the 2017 Goldwater Dinner, speaking to several hundred guests and attendees about the conservative message that Barry Goldwater helped to inspire.

In addition to Kasparov, who is also known for his writing and political activism, Barry Goldwater, Jr. and Grover Norquist also spoke, as well as a live auction prior to the keynote speech.

Kasparov became the youngest ever undisputed World Chess Champion in 1985 at age 22, and retired in 2005. He holds the record for the most consecutive professional tournament victories in chess.

Kasparov was born and raised in Russia, and first began seriously studying chess after he came across a chess problem set up by his parents.
