Former Governor of Arizona Janet Napolitano returned to her home state for a campaign event on behalf of Hillary Clinton, addressing supporters at a local phone bank at the Arizona Democratic Party headquarters in Phoenix.
Napolitano was elected Governor twice, in 2002 and 2006, and also served as Secretary of Homeland Security under President Obama during his first term, which caused Jan Brewer to ascend to the position of Governor in 2008.
Since 2013, Napolitano has served as the President of the University of California. She returned to Arizona in order to attend the memorial service of the late former Governor Rose Mofford, and made time to campaign for Hillary Clinton before the service.
Napolitano is the last Democrat to have won a statewide race for Governor, and along with Ann Kirkpatrick, candidate for U.S. Senate, both women stated their desire to turn Arizona blue in 2016.
Recent polling has indicated Arizona may be a tossup state, but it hasn't gone for a Democrat for President since 1996, for Bill Clinton.
