On Saturday the Democratic Party of Arizona hosted an event in Phoenix focused on bringing together women all across the state in order to train, educate and focus their efforts for the upcoming general election in November.

The event, titled "Women Together Arizona Summit" was host to several leading women in politics, including keynote speeches from Gabrielle Giffords, former Congresswoman, and noted feminist and author Gloria Steinem. Additional speakers included state legislators Katie Hobbs and Charlene Fernandez, as well as Jessica O'Connell from EMILY's List and Mini Tammaraju from Hillary for America.

Steinem is noted for her activism over several decades in the feminist movement, and spoke about her support for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election over Republican nominee Donald Trump. Steinem has been a surrogate for the Clinton campaign, speaking at various events on behalf of her campaign, and was already in town for a book signing of her memoir titled "My Life on the Road."

Giffords also spoke about her support for Clinton, speaking for a couple minutes and concluding her brief remarks by saying that "speaking is difficult" for her, but she hopes to be able to say the words "Madam President" in January 2017. Giffords also spoke earlier in the year at both Hillary and Bill Clinton's Arizona campaign events prior to the Democratic primary.
