Swimmer Diana Nyad made an appearance in Phoenix, Arizona on Thursday morning, addressing attendees at the 31st Annual Association for Applied Sport Psychology Conference (AASP), which took place this year at the Arizona Grand Resort. Nyad was the keynote speaker for the event, which focused primarily on the psychology of athleticism and other health related topics.
Nyad is known for having swam from Cuba to Key West, Florida, without a shark cage, the first person to accomplish such a feat. Nyad completed this swim on her fifth attempt at the age of 64.
She was also in town to promote her book "Find A Way", which seeks to give "a spirited account of what it takes to face one's fears, engage one's passions, and never give up."
Along with her swimming accomplishments, Nyad has become a motivational speaker, providing inspiration to accomplish one's goals, as well as a journalist.
