Science fiction author Kim Stanley Robinson appeared at the Phoenix Art Museum on Wednesday evening, delivering a lecture titled "The Comedy of Coping: Alarm and Resolve in Climate Fiction."

Robinson is known for authoring the Mars trilogy, and was promoting his new book, New York 2140, which focuses on global warming and climate change.

The event was cosponsored by the ASU Center for Science and Imagination and the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing, who regularly host talks with poets, authors and novelists.

In his speech, Robinson proposed ideas to help curb the effects of global warming, including tighter controls on businesses and transforming the U.S. government into democratic socialism.

As a writer, Robinson has won the Hugo Award, Nebula Award and the World Fantasy Award, and his novels regularly focus on ecological, cultural and political themes.
