NCLR brings Laurie Hernandez, Jesse and Joy, becomes UnidosUS

The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) held its annual convention in Phoenix this year, returning to its roots, as the organization celebrated its 49th year since its founding in Phoenix.


This year's convention included a keynote speech delivered by Olympic gold medalist Laurie Hernandez, as well as presentations by former RNC Chair Michael Steele, Sheriff Paul Penzone, Congressman Ruben Gallego, Mayor Greg Stanton, pop duo Jesse & Joy, and several others.


The convention also hosted several town halls on education, healthcare and immigration. Former Congressman Ed Pastor introduced a town hall on tax reform, which included a discussion between William Beach and Michael Ettlinger.


Also offered at the convention was free health screenings to families at the National Latino Family Expo, and also occurred in conjunction with the Lideres Summit and Health Summit.


At the conclusion of the event the National Council of La Raza announced that it was changing its name after 49 years to UnidosUS.
