Phoenix Comicon, the premier comic book, movie and television convention in Arizona, returned to the Phoenix Convention Center for its annual affair, with this year's highlight being a first-ever appearance at any Comic Con by legendary actor Dick Van Dyke.

Over the past several years, Phoenix Comicon's attendance numbers have grown exponentially, putting it in competition with many of the other pop culture conventions around the country, including the behemoth that is San Diego Comic Con.

As such, the convention has been able to attract popular guests from throughout geek culture to attend and speak and meet with fans. In addition to Van Dyke, this year's guests included Alan Tudyk, Karen Gillan, Danny Trejo, Jon Bernthal, Bonnie Wright, Curtis Armstrong, and Anthony Michael Hall, among others.

But celebrity guests are only one aspect of the annual convention. There's also cosplay, authors, artists, an expanded exhibitor hall, and a video game arcade, as well as a host of childrens programming and science panels.

Attendance numbers have yet to be released for this year's convention, but with the growth that Phoenix Comicon has experienced over the past several years, it's likely to be another record setting year.
